Erasmus + Project „THINK FAST, THINK SLOW, DECIDE WELL, BE STRONG!” approved!



Some young people have witnessed bad examples of decision-making in society, at national or international level, in challenging historical or economical contexts, or even in their familiar or scholar environment. However, in formal education systems youngsters are rarely offered room for self-initiated decision making. 

The aim of this project is to provide young people with a ‘corrective experience’ in decision-making, a sense of hope and joyful responsibility as a part of decision-making, resulting in a new self-confidence and passionate involvement in decision-making processes in their personal and social life. More concretely, the main topic of the project “THINK FAST, THINK SLOW, DECIDE WELL, BE STRONG!” is to help youngsters to become good decision-makers in any fields of their life: carrier choice, life style, time management, work and leisure activities, family life, ethical issues, social involvement, participatory citizenship.

30 youngsters, mostly from 16 to 22 y.o., from Lithuania, Latvia and Spain will meet during 5 days in Madrid at the end of September 2014 to face these challenges in the frame the Youth mobility action of Erasmus + program. The activity plan consists of a mix of workshops, exercises, debates, social games, outdoor activities and others, related with the theme chosen by the participants: Decision-making. The project uses and informal learning approach, learning practically decision-making competence in activities during the Exchange, with peers and facilitators. It is mainly learning by doing. In general the activities use participatory working methods that 1) offer space for interaction of participants, sharing of ideas, avoiding passive listening; 2) allow participants to contribute to the activities with their own knowledge and skills, and 3) allow participants to undertake their own analyses, including reflections on competences acquired during the activity (i.e. their own learning outcomes). Participants are involved progressively in the decision making process of the project as such, from the preparation of the application till the dissemination.

The activities included “sharing decision-making experiences”, “decision-making theory in practice” (informal meeting with relevant adults), “decisions for healthy live”(sports, excursion), “social decision making” (role game), “responsible decision-making” (cineforum), “the reflective decision-maker” (Youthpass process), “Intercultural decision-making” (intercultural evening), etc.

The results of the project (a blog with the tool-box of the good decision-maker, and a video explaining the problems, process and solutions found by participants), are made wide available on line (Youtube, websites, etc.)> presentations are also done by participants at local un national levels.
